Deadline Approaching for Organizations to Apply for 2007 Arizona Benefits $100,000 Charity Award

$100,000 grant available to non-profit organization in inaugural program

PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--A little more than five weeks remain for Greater Phoenix-area charities to apply for a one-time, $100,000 grant in the inaugural Arizona Benefits charitable awards program, created and funded by health benefits company Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM). The program is designed to give local not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) charitable organizations the opportunity to receive a meaningful contribution.

To be considered, organizations must submit an application by August 31, 2007. Phoenix-area nonprofit organizations are encouraged to visit www.arizonabenefits.org to download a copy of this years grant application and review program criteria. Arizona Benefits will award the $100,000 grant to a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization based in the Greater Phoenix metropolitan area that is doing valuable work to benefit people in Maricopa County. Arizona Benefits supports charitable organizations that address community improvements in the areas of mind, body and spirit.

A panel of local judges comprised of community leaders, public officials and business representatives will select the $100,000 grant recipient. The nonprofit recipient will be announced at a celebratory event Thursday, November 15 at the Arizona Biltmore.

Arizona Benefits will recognize organizations supporting the following improvements in the community:

  • Mind - Projects or institutions that seek to improve the educational landscape resulting in higher levels of achievement.
  • Body - Projects or human service agencies engaged in the promotion of healthy bodies and lifestyles. Special consideration will be given to projects with outcomes that address the health and wellness needs of the community.
  • Spirit - Projects or civic & cultural development organizations that seek to inspire communities and enliven the human spirit.

Applicants should explain how the organization would use Humanas Arizona Benefits grant to transform itself; detail the organizations financial health; provide examples of previous, successful projects; and describe how the organization benefits the people of the Phoenix area.
