"We are honored to be chosen to provide health care services under Project ARCH to Veterans residing in rural areas"

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Humana Veterans Healthcare Services, a subsidiary of Humana Military Healthcare Services owned by Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM), announces today it was awarded the Project ARCH (Access Received Closer to Home) contract by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The contract provides a range of specified health care services to eligible Veterans in certain pilot sites to improve access to health care delivery for Veterans who must travel significant distances to receive care at a VA medical facility.

Under Project ARCH, Humana Veterans will administer Veteran health care services needs closer to their home, contract management functions, as well as administrative services including referral management, grievances, coordination of admission and discharges, and clinical quality improvement in four of the five pilot VISNs designated by VA:

  • VISN 6 – Farmville, Virginia (Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center)
  • VISN 15 – Pratt, Kansas (Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center)
  • VISN 18 – Flagstaff, Arizona (Northern Arizona VA Health Care System)
  • VISN 19 – Billings, Montana (Montana VA Health Care System)

Project ARCH intends to improve access for eligible Veterans by connecting them to health care services closer to home without sacrificing the quality of care Veterans receive within the VA healthcare system.

“We are honored to be chosen to provide health care services under Project ARCH to Veterans residing in rural areas,” said Tim McClain, president and CEO of Humana Veterans. “Humana Veterans appreciates the tremendous responsibility of caring for our nation’s heroes. We look forward to working closely with each VA medical center in Project ARCH to provide excellent service to each Veteran referred to the pilot program,” McClain concluded.

The Project ARCH contract has a base period of three months and three one-year option periods exercisable by the VA.
