Public Company Information:

PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Fresh Start Womens Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to educating and empowering women facing life changes through divorce, job loss, illness, marriage or motherhood, has received a $100,000 grant as the winner of the second annual Arizona Benefits award, funded by Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM), one of the nations largest health-benefits companies.

Announcement of the grant was made by Debbie Smith, president of Senior Products for Humanas West Region which includes Arizona. Two other finalists for the award, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix and The Wellness Community, received grants of $10,000 from Humana.

The Jewell McFarland Lewis-Fresh Start Womens Resource Center opened its central Phoenix location in 2002 supporting women in personal development, education, family law support, career services, self-esteem services, mentoring and library services. The $100,000 grant from Humana will expand the reach of services to Maricopa Countys East Valley including Chandler, Gilbert, Queen Creek and Mesa. The funds will allow Fresh Start to acquire office space, furniture and equipment to initially establish a mentoring program, financial literacy initiative and family law support services.

A panel of judges comprised of business and community leaders helped Humana select the Fresh Start Womens Resource Center from a set of three finalists, with each finalist addressing the improvement of the mind, body or spirit through its work.

With all the admirable non-profit work being done in the Phoenix area, it was difficult to select just one organization to receive our Arizona Benefits grant, said Smith of Humana. Thats why we were especially pleased to be able to also fund our two semi-finalists with $10,000 grants. We look forward to seeing the Fresh Start Womens Resource Center in the East Valley and know it will make a huge impact in the lives of these women and their families.
