"One of our primary focuses has been on preventive care and the impact that can have on a consumer's health later in life"
SAN ANTONIO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 13, 2006--Residents of San Antonio, Texas can now earn rewards while improving their health through HealthMiles Plus, a health rewards program offered by Virgin Life Care and individual insurance, underwritten by Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM). Similar in concept to frequent flyer programs, HealthMiles Plus is a first-of-its-kind rewards program with incentives designed to motivate people to lead healthier lives and take a preventive approach to health care.

The HealthMiles program is designed to motivate and incent consumers to take a more active role in their health while simultaneously helping to reduce health care costs. The accessible, interactive and easy-to-use program enables members to set health and fitness goals, track results and earn Miles for effort and achievement. Members earn Miles for exercising, tracking results and monitoring and improving key body biometrics, such as blood pressure, body fat and weight. These Miles are converted into Virgin Life Care Cash, which can be redeemed at retailers nationwide, or can be used to offset future program costs.

"HealthMiles Plus motivates consumers to get and stay fit in a fun, life-enhancing and reward-driven way," said Jamie McLeod, business development director for Virgin Life Care. "We know that people are more likely to lead a healthy lifestyle if they are rewarded for the positive choices they make."

The insurance portion of HealthMiles Plus, underwritten by Humana, is much like other individual insurance policies. The difference lies in the rewards component, which offers an integrated and complete approach to health and wellness designed to engage consumers and get them to take a more active role in their own health care.

"One of our primary focuses has been on preventive care and the impact that can have on a consumer's health later in life," said Stephen Cindrich, marketing director for Humana Individual Products. "When people lead healthy, active lifestyles, the incidence of chronic diseases, such as heart disease and diabetes, decreases dramatically. This, in turn, decreases the amount of costly interventions required later in life, ultimately leading to reduced overall health care costs."

The new health rewards program will be officially introduced to the public at the Jazz'SAlive event in Travis Park on Saturday, Sept. 16 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. During this fun-filled day, attendees will learn fun and easy ways to take charge of their health and wellness, as well as how they can start earning rewards for living healthier lifestyles. The event offers something for everyone:

-- Activities, such as rock climbing, bungee bouncing, jousting, bungee run, an obstacle course, baseball pitching, strength test and even a bounce house for kids

-- Fun and interactive information on healthy lifestyles and exercise

-- Demonstrations of the HealthZone - the computerized health monitor that enables members to measure their health statistics and log in exercise

HealthMiles Plus is available with both individual and family insurance plans, which are required for enrollment. More information can be found at www.healthmilesplus.com
