LOUISVILLE, Ky.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Effective Jan. 1, 2010, Humana will begin administering the Limited Income Newly Eligible Transition (LI-NET) program for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). This program allows individuals who receive Medicare’s low-income subsidy to also receive immediate prescription drug coverage at the point of sale if they are not already enrolled in a Part D plan.

CMS will temporarily enroll newly identified individuals with Medicare and Medicaid (“dual-eligibles”) into the LI-NET program, and then enroll them into a Medicare prescription drug plan.

“People shouldn’t have to go without their medications because they haven’t been able to access the help they’re entitled to receive,” said William Fleming, PhamD., vice president of Humana’s pharmacy division, Humana Pharmacy Solutions. “Being on the front line of health care, pharmacists hear these stories and they know how to help. Programs such as LI-NET provide a critical safety net to the most vulnerable people in our communities.”

For more information about the LI-NET program, including information for pharmacists on how to administer the plan, please go to the Humana Pharmacy portal of Humana.com at www.humana.com/pharmacists/ and click on “Limited Income NET Information & Forms” or contact Humana at 1-800-783-1307.

LI-NET replaces the current “Point-of-Sale Facilitated Enrollment” process.
