EL PASO, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM) announced today the expansion of its Medicare presence in El Paso, Texas, and Las Cruces, N.M. Beginning on Nov. 15, seniors in El Paso County in Texas and Dona Ana, Luna and Otero counties in New Mexico can enroll in the local Humana Choice PPO plan, as well as have access to Special Needs Plans (SNPs) for those with osteoarthritis. The 2008 expansion, approved by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, builds upon the other Medicare plans currently available in the El Paso and Las Cruces markets, and focuses on providing greater choice to meet the changing needs of seniors in the market.

The Humana Choice PPO plans provide seniors with affordable alternatives to original Medicare or a Medicare supplement plan. Members have the flexibility to select a provider or facility of choice either in or out of network, although out-of-network benefits are reduced. The plan also offers prescription drug coverage and low co-payments for in-network primary care and specialist office visits.

For those with osteoarthritis, Humana offers the Humana Choice PPO Special Needs Plan, which offers members routine chiropractic visits, acupuncture and osteoarthritis drug coverage during the coverage gap.

As baby boomers and individuals with Medicare age, their insurance needs change. Were committed to changing our Medicare product offerings to meet them where they are in their health care experience, said George F. Smith, M.D., regional president of Senior Products for Humanas Southwest region. Weve listened to people with Medicare about what they want and used our experience in health benefits to give them more options that fit their health needs. With each local PPO customized to fit the needs of a specific market, we can better tailor our product offerings to the needs of its Medicare members.

The new PPO plan includes money-saving features, like discounts on routine vision, dental and hearing care, complimentary and alternative medicine. They also include Humanas 24-hour nurse support service, HumanaFirst, and a member assistance program to provide seniors with additional support services and guidance.

Additionally, most prescription drug coverage that accompanies the PPO plans will include a $0 co-payment of Tier 1 (preferred generic) drugs when ordered through Humanas preferred prescription home-delivery service, RightSource.

Those eligible for Medicare throughout the El Paso area continue to have the choice of Humana's other Medicare plans, including Humana Gold Choice, the private fee-for-service plan that offers members nationwide medical coverage, the Part D prescription drug plans and the regional Humana Choice PPO plan.

Humana Medicare Advantage is an alternative to original Medicare, not a supplement. For more information about enrolling in any Humana plans, visit www.humana-medicare.com or call toll-free 1-800-340-5610.
