Background: Traditionally, the yellow ribbon signifies the absence of a loved one awaiting his or her safe return home. Humana Military, in partnership with USA Cares and Brighton Collectibles, support Operation Yellow Ribbon. Humana Military purchased 1,350 yellow ribbon charms made by Brighton Collectibles. The proceeds from the charms will go to USA Cares, which offers financial assistance to military families in need. These keepsakes will be distributed by Humana Military and USA Cares to Kentucky National Guard members of the 149th MEB at various units throughout the week. At the appropriate time, the soldiers will give the charm to their significant other, family member, or loved one as they mobilize for their year long deployment in Iraq.

“Through Operation Yellow Ribbon, Humana Military is proud to partner with USA Cares and Brighton Collectibles in honoring members of the 149th Maneuver Enhanced Brigade for their service to the Commonwealth,” said Dave Baker, president and CEO of Humana Military. “These beautiful charms are just a small token to say thank you and to show our support for their families as the unit embarks on its mission to Iraq. We salute these citizen soldiers, and we pray for their safe return.”

Family, friends, as well as key local and state dignitaries will honor and recognize the Kentucky National Guard 149th MEB during a deployment ceremony. The ceremony will be held at 4:00 P.M., Saturday, June 4th 2011, Freedom Hall at the Kentucky Exposition Center. The event is free and open to the public.
