Public Company Information:

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--What’s the difference between an out-of-network and in-network doctor? Why is health care so complex? What’s with the alphabet soup of HDHPs, HSAs and FSAs? These and similar questions are asked by consumers every day. To answer them, Humana is delivering guidance through a new online experience called “Stay Smart, Stay Healthy.”

Stay Smart, Stay Healthy takes complex health care topics and puts them into easy-to-understand video clips. The experience includes a full complement of social media outlets, including a Facebook presence and YouTube channel.

“We’re using social media to help consumers better understand health care,” said Ed Batchelor, Humana’s Corporate Director of Internet Strategy. “Consumers are discussing these topics across the Web. We have an opportunity to bring some of our insights into the conversation.”

Stay Smart, Stay Healthy videos include the following topics:

  • Why is health care so expensive?
  • What are HSAs, FSAs and HDHPs?
  • What is consumer-driven health care?
  • Why does it cost more to use some doctors than others?
  • How did health care evolve in the United States?
  • What are PPOs and HMOs?
  • How do deductibles and copayments work?
  • How does health insurance work?
  • Why do some drugs cost more than others?
  • What is Medicare?

When consumers visit the Stay Smart, Stay Healthy Web site, they can select which video topic they wish to view. The site, www.staysmartstayhealthy.com, also provides the ability to connect across multiple social media outlets, including Twitter and MySpace.

“Social media is a space we continue to explore,” said Jason Loehr, a Marketing New Media Manager for Humana. “We know the potential it offers for us to connect with consumers, as well as the other audiences we interact with.”

The video inventory for www.staysmartstayhealthy.com will continue to grow as new topics are explored. Consumers will continue to be a big part of the site’s growth.

“Our intent is to let the Stay Smart, Stay Healthy experience be consumer-driven,” Batchelor said. “We are interested in what people think of the content and we will help answer questions they ask. Anyone can access the videos.”

The Stay Smart, Stay Healthy site and its related social media links are open to the public. To review the videos, visit www.staysmartstayhealthy.com.
